Police station, customary court, DPO residence burnt down by angry youths after a young man was allegedly killed by a policeman in Abia (photos) There is reportedly an unrest in Ebem community of Ohafia, Abia State following the killing of a young man identified simply as Friday.  Friday was reportedly shot dead on Friday night after some policemen got into a fight with a supermarket owner in the community.  An eywitness, Mr. Madu Kalu told The Nation that a Police station, a customary court and a DPO residence were burnt down after the incident denegerated into violence.  An eyewitness said;   “It started at Ebem-Ohafia where a supermarket owner at the motor park close to the police station and his boys were off-loading wares from a truck around 6:30pm on Friday . “The supermarket faces the major road in the town. Man kills brother for having sex with their mother The Kenyan police have arrested a 36-year-old man from Bokisero-Nyabwari Village in Nyamira North Sub-County, for killing his younger brother whom he allegedly caught having sex with their biological mother on Thursday night.  Evans Mamboleo Nyachuba had visited their mother at about 8:30pm when he reportedly caught his 31-year-old sibling, Fred Onsongo Nyachuba engaging in sexual intercourse with their 55-year-old mother Doria Moraa Nyachuba. He reportedly smashed his brother’s face and the back of his head with a plank, killing him at the spot. Bokisaba Location chief, Philip Masenge who confirmed the incident said Mamboleo is being held at Ekerenyo police post. The body of the deceased has already been taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital morgue. The Police have also commenced an investigation into the matter.

President Buhari's Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, Dies of Coronavirus. The Chief of Staff to the president, Abba Kyari has died. He died on Friday April 17, more than two weeks after he tested positive to Coronavirus. Announcing Kyari's death on Twitter, Presidency spokesman Garba Shehu, wrote; ''The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. “The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.” ''May God accept his soul. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.'' 51 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria Nigeria has recorded 51 new cases of the novel coronavirus, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). In a tweet on Friday April 17, the NCDC reported thirty-two cases in Lagos, six in Kano, five in Kwara, two each in the Federal Capital Territory and Oyo, and one each in Ogun and Ekiti. This bring the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria to 493, discharged cases 159, and Deaths 17.

Nasarawa buys N500m cars for lawmakers despite having no single ventilator in that state The Nasarawa State governor has reportedly bought 24 Toyota Hilux vehicles for state lawmakers, estimated at nearly N500 million. This is despite the fact that the state does not have a single ventilator. According to Daily Trust, the Speaker of Nasarawa House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi stated that Abdullahi gave the 24 Toyota Hilux to the lawmakers as official vehicles. At an average cost of N21m per car, they are worth a combined total of N504m. The car purchase comes amid a protest by Medical and Health Workers in the state. The health workers on Thursday, April 16, protested non-payment of their March salary by Doma local government. They threatened to embark on industrial action from Friday, if they are not paid.
