Missing Osun Coronavirus patient finally apprehended

The Osun State Government has confirmed that the Coronavirus patient who escaped from its isolation facility has been apprehended, hours after being declared missing.

This came after the state's Commissioner of information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemonde denied report of six coronavirus patients escaping from the isolation facility in Ejigbo area of the state.

Egbemonde said earlier that only one person out of the 127 patients at the Isolation centre could not be accounted for by officials stationed at facility.

She said;

“This morning we embarked on a headcount and found out that only one person could not be accounted for by officials stationed at the Isolation centre out of the 127 persons.
"The State Government is currently investigating the matter and will ensure that the missing person is brought back to the Isolation centre and we will also ensure we trace all his contacts.

"Any official(s) found culpable will also be dealt with accordingly and implored members of the public to discountenance the alarm being raised.

"We will continue to do everything to protect the lives of our citizens in this fight against Coronavirus.”

The Chief Press Secretary to Osun State Governor, Ismail Omipidan has now confirmed that the woman who was declared missing after the head count was conducted has been apprehended. She was returned to the facility by the police on Saturday afternoon.

Omipadan further disclosed that the government is investigating her movement around the community with a view to tracing anyone who might have had contact with her.

He said;

"It is true that a patient, a woman escaped from the isolation centre, but she has been apprehended and returned to the facility.
"Presently, we are investigating her movement to enable us to initiate contact tracing with anyone she might have contacted to avoid community spread of the deadly pandemic."
